Let's Burger Plus
三里屯路11号太古里北区B1楼, 6415-2772
5.54 miles or 19 minutes 9 seconds (approximately) from the office the way the scooter flies.
Located in "pit" area of Sanlitun Village North.
Doing good business, pretty packed inside, so I chose to sit outside, which was strangely free (overcast day).
Wifi.
No lunch specials, no set menu.
Nice waitress, very attentive, not pushy about getting a drink, water is fine. But that's always the case, with *me.*
Ordered a simple green salad (58) and the "cheese king burger" (118) -- cheddar, Danish brie, cream cheese, beef patty, organic veggies, topped with blue cheese dressing.
No service charge.
Collect money upfront! That's odd.
Quick with fapiao.
Take credit cards, of course. I paid with cash so the drones have a harder time tracking me.
Salad came out fast but was overdressed and just a pile of greens. If you're going to charge US$9.45 for a salad, take a cue from the rip-off artists at Element Fresh and Wagas and put some interesting ingredients in there to liven it up, seeds, nuts, cheese, sweet potato, etc. ... make people happy with the price (less unhappy).
Wicker lawn furniture was comfortable, right height.
Burger was this monster stack of stuff (see pic), completely impossible to handle, tough to smoosh and stick in mouth. I managed, but I'm a big boy.
Burger underdone in center -- booooo -- and I found a fairly large chunk of cartilage in there too. Look, if I'm paying over US$19 for a burger 1) I'm an idiot, and 2) it better be perfect at that price, I mean amazing, better than perfect.
Once they collect the money and deliver the food, they leave you alone, I mean completely alone.
Waitress looked genuinely worried when I told her burger was underdone before I left. She was sweet, I felt bad for her.
There's a sink inside to wash up and you're going to need it after handling the cheese king burger.
Total: 176 kuai (US$28.66)
Would I return? Obviously not, but maybe if the prices were half what I paid I'd give them another chance. It doesn't matter what I think, there are so many Chinese now who can afford to drop $30 on lunch that places like Element Fresh, Wagas, Let's Burger, etc. which serve "exotic" food to the locals can not only survive, but thrive. The rising middle class in China is real, and it's a force.
